Abe and Tina Pauls


This is Abe and Tina.  Abe is Grandma's brother.  Their children were Margareta and Gerald.

GMOL says that Tina's full name was Katharina Dyck and that they were married July 30, 1932

My conversations with family and reading Mum's book paint a painful picture of Abe.  He was a soldier before they came to Canada.  It is believed that those experiences painted the rest of his life.  He didn't appear to be a happy person.  The memories of those who knew him lead to speculation that perhaps he saw too much awful or never forgave himself for things he did during those times.


This is Aunt Tina with Margareta and Gerald (Jerry).

Aunt Tina had another son in between Margareta and Jerry.  His name was Victor.  They lost him to whooping cough on July 2, 1935.  He was only 4 months old.  Unfortunately Tina didn't have a single picture of Victor so when Jerry was born, she made sure to take this picture.

Cousins Story 4

Laura is 11 year younger than Margareta and 12 years younger than Rudy. ------------ Laura was a sunny, happy child with a vivid imagination and the ability to tell her imaginative adventures in a delightful way.  One day Rudolf overheard her telling me one of those wildly imaginative tales.  He shook his finger at her, and in all seriousness said, "Laura! You know that isn't true; Laura, you mustn't lie!".  She might have been four or five at the time.  Rudolph's admonition always bothered me.  Both Laura and I knew that her story was from her imagination and hadn't really happened.  If both of us knew that, was it still a lie?

Cousins Story 7

When Laura was maybe two, the Fred Duecks were at our place.  It was in summer or fall so we five kids were sent out to play.  This was customary in nice weather because home were small and there really wasn't enough room for kids and adults both .  Besides, adults wanted to talk about stuff that little ears weren't supposed to hear!  The adults, being the bosses, always sent the kids outside; they never even once let us stay in while they went out!
