Cousins Story 7
When Laura was maybe two, the Fred Duecks were at our place. It was in summer or fall so we five kids were sent out to play. This was customary in nice weather because home were small and there really wasn't enough room for kids and adults both . Besides, adults wanted to talk about stuff that little ears weren't supposed to hear! The adults, being the bosses, always sent the kids outside; they never even once let us stay in while they went out!
Anyway, on this particular day, we decided to give little Laura a ride in our red toy wagon. The faster we went, the more Laura laughed so we began to run with her. Immediately, Rudolph reprimanded us, "You're not supposed to run with Laura!" End of our fun!! I remember Rudolph always being solicitous of Laura's well-being. As mischievous as he sometimes was, he cared a great deal about his little sister who had been born prematurely and was fragile at birth. I remember Aunt Elsie saying that Laura's fingers were no thicker than matchsticks as a newborn.
